Cycling Betting Tips

With the upcoming Tour De France, we felt it was time to add a Cycling Betting Tips section to Spreadsheet Betting to help you when looking at the best odds on cycling races throughout the season.

Betting on Cycling offers a number of different types of markets especially on the Grand Tours, which are made up of Tour de France, Giro d’Italia and Vuelta a España.

If you’re new to Cycling Betting then you will notice that certain riders are wearing cycling jerseys that are different to their normal team jersey and these change throughout the race based on different successes.

The Yellow Jersey (maillot jaune) is awarded to the rider who is currently leading the general classification in the race and therefore is seen as the most prestigious jersey to wear within one of the Grand Tours.  There have been a number of famous and infamous winners of the Yellow Jersey in the Tour De France including Miguel Indurain, Chris Froome and the infamous Lance Armstrong.

We will be offering Yellow Jersey Betting Odds closer to the event.

The Green Jersey (maillot vert) is awarded to the current leader in the points competition within the Grand Tour.  Throughout each stage, there are points awarded for the first rider over the line within specific areas of the race.  It is generally seen as a sprinters jersey as the points and areas of the race tend to lend themselves to sprinters.  The overall points winner can be determined all the way down to the final day dependent on the way in which different stages pan out during the race.

Once Green Jersey Betting Odds have been published we will share our thoughts closer to the start of the race.

The Polka Dot Jersey (maillot à pois rouges) is awarded to the rider who is leading the Kind of the Mountains classification during the Grand Tour.  This is made up of points awarded to cyclists who win certain sections of the race which test the very best climbers in the world.  These climbers, also known as a grimpeur, tend to have superior power to weight ratios with an ability to break away and climb the hills at insane speed.

In the lead up to the start of the Tour De France, we will offer King of The Mountains Betting Odds.

The White Jersey (maillot blanc) is the final jersey in the classification set and is awarded to the best young rider in the race.  Again quite prestigious as it recognises up and coming riders within that Grand Tour and indicates towards future superstars.  In the main, the cut off for the award is to the best-placed rider age under 26.

Once all the teams have been announced we’ll provide White Jersey Betting Odds for the Tour De France.
